  16. When dvips with kpathsea-routines does not find a font on my system
  17. the MakeTeXPK script is called to generate it. Though anything goes
  18. smooth and the font is installed correctly dvips insists on complaining
  19. about that missing font.

  21.     dvips: Font cmsl10 not found, characters will be left blank.
  22.  
  23. The next attempt to print will not create this message. Is this behaviour
  24. intended? Is it a bug?
  25.  
  26. By the way: wouldn't it be nice to be informed that dvips or xdvi are
  27. creating fonts? When there are a couple of missing fonts one has to
  28. wait in front of a blank screen without any idea what's going on.
  29. I don't know what your TeX users do, this is what mine do:

  33. Uh, almost forgot: Trying to print the dvips manual yields a lot of
  34. "MakeTeXPK font 328 300 magstep(0.5) mode" commands that all fail
  35. due to rounding errors on my IBM RS/6000. The code in kpathsea
  36. contains comments in tex-make.c that this should NOT HAPPEN? What
  37. about this one?
